We spent over a year searching for the perfect holiday cottage for two and we think we found it at Thimble Cottage. The cottage is situated in the heart of one of the prettiest villages of the Peak District National Park, Youlgreave, which is a half hour drive from junction 28 of the M1 and is close to Bakewell, Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Matlock and Buxton. It is ideal as a romantic hideaway for two, or with walks literally from the doorstep it is an excellent base for walking holidays.

Thimble Cottage provides equivalent 3 star+ self catering accommodation and whilst the cottage is very well equipped and tastefully decorated, the charm of a 150 year old traditional stone cottage has not been compromised. The cottage is conveniently located adjacent to the local Post Office and a short stroll from the three village pubs (all of which serve good food) and the two traditional butchers which also double up as general stores.

Immediately next door to Thimble Cottage is Thimble Hall which is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the smallest detached house in the UK.

Youlgreave boasts many interesting sites and traditions; one being the annual Well Dressing which takes place right outside the front door of Thimble Cottage in June and is an event unique to Derbyshire villages.

We were completely over whelmed by the popularity of Thimble Cottage and we love the village and the area so much that just before Christmas 2003 we bought two more cottages just around the corner, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. We have listened to our guests and applied what we have learnt from running Thimble to these two new cottages which have proven to be just as popular as Thimble Cottage.

Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum are also one bedroom cottages boasting fabulous hand carved 4 poster beds and surround sound DVD / CD players with a great selection of DVD's and CD's, both cottages are proving to be very popular for honeymoons.

We are very excited to announce the latest edition to our portfolio, Dawson's Cottage which we are delighted to be managing on behalf of the owners. The cottage is a lovingly restored one bedroom barn conversion and is situated virtually opposite Tweedledee & Tweedledum Cottages. The cottage has been refurbished throughout to a very high standard. Very unusually for a one bedroom cottage, Dawson's Cottage has a full main downstairs bathroom plus and ensuite shower room and toilet and small dressing room. Dawson's Cottage also has off street carparking.

As with many Derbyshire villages parking is often a problem and the heart of Youlgreave is no exception. To overcome this we bought the piece of land below which situated to the rear of Thimble Cottage and opposite Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum Cottages so that private off street parking (one car per cottage) is now available for Thimble, Tweedledee, Tweedledum and Fountainwell cottages. Dawson's Cottage also has private off street car parking for one car.

Fountainwell Cottage is located just across Fountain Square from Thimble Cottage in Youlgreave. We are managing this property on behalf of the owners. Fountainwell Cottage is a lovely spacious cottage which sleeps up to 5 people in 3 bedrooms (two doubles and one single) and has a large sitting room with woodburner and oak flooring and a large fully equipped dining kitchen with farmhouse table. Fountainwell cottage is the owners' own home when they are in the UK. We offer discounts for couples just requiring the master bedroom.

We are very excited to include Conifer Cottage to our portfolio. Conifer Cottage is a delightful, traditional, stone built cottage with 2 bedrooms situated a short distance from the main street in Youlgreave, yet within easy walking distance of all the village amenities including the 3 village pubs.

It has a woodburning stove in the sitting room, comfortable seating and TV with integral DVD player.

The farmhouse style kitchen is spacious, with a dining area and access to a small walled rear courtyard garden.

Prospect Cottage was purchased by our clients during Easter 2006 and has been refurbished and redecorated throughout. Originally built as the Curate's home, Prospect Cottage is a beautiful Grade Two listed property.

Upstairs, there are two double bedrooms both with double beds and a spacious bathroom. Downstairs, the sitting room has a woodburning stove, with comfortable leather seating, Flat screen TV and DVD player. The kitchen is spacious with modern units and appliances, together with farmhouse style table and chairs.

Situated on the outskirts of the pretty market town of Wirksworth, in an elevated position, there are fabulous walks from the doorstep, yet all the amenities are also within easy reach. For the more ambitious there is the Malt Shovel Pub at the head of Wash Green some 800 yards uphill. For the enthusiast there is the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway at the bottom of the hill.

There is a typically planted English Cottage Garden to the front and an off street parking space within it, entered through two stone pillars.

We regret that we do not accept pets at Prospect Cottage or children under the age of 12.

Amberwood is a delightful 2 bedroom traditional stone barn conversion, occupying an elevated position on a ridge just to the south of Wirksworth, at the edge of the Peak District National Park. It is situated in its own generous private grounds, with ample car parking and landscaped lawn area bounded by dry stone walls.

The Cottage is surrounded by farmland and the numerous walks available straight from the doorstep lead out into both woodland and open countryside with breathtaking views. The Bear Inn is about a four hundred yard level walk, otherwise all the facilities of Wirksworth are about 2 miles away.

Upstairs the Cottage comprises of a Master Bedroom with double bed, linked by an open plan study/sitting area, across the top of the stairs, to a separate WC with wash hand basin and built in wardrobe space. The original external stone loft staircase has been restored and provides separate access directly to the Master bedroom if required.

Downstairs is a good sized twin bedroom, sitting room with TV and Video, farmhouse style kitchen/diner, bathroom with bath and separate shower over and a utility area housing the washing machine and central heating boiler.

Decorated to a high standard and retaining much of the authenticity of the original structure, the Cottage is fully fitted with central heating throughout and all the modern amenities one would expect.

The Cottage entrance is relatively level and the ground floor layout is generally convenient for those less mobile or able to manage stairs.

All eight cottages have been tastefully decorated and furnished and they all have their own individual charms. They all have upstairs bathroom facilities, Thimble and the Tweedles have baths and a hand held shower over the bath. Fountainwell has an electric shower over the bath. Conifer has an adjustable wall mounted shower over the bath as does Prospect Cottage. Amberwood has a ground floor bathroom with bath and shower over together with a WC with wash hand basin next to the Master bedroom upstairs.

We believe that rest and relaxation is essential for a good holiday so you will find all the beds extremely comfortable and the cottages are all well equipped. Linen and towels at all cottages are all included in the price.

Continuing on the comfort theme we recently replaced the sofas at Tweedledee and Tweedledum with lovely squashy leather ones. We managed to fit a corner one in at Tweedledee so that you can both stretch out and relax together in the evenings.

Amberwood, Conifer, Fountainwell and Prospect Cottages are ideal for holidaying with friends and / or family, or if you prefer to have a little more space, we offer discounts for couples.

With a rich cultural background of stately homes, ancient mines, picturesque watermills, a network of old packhorse ways, footpaths and cycle tracks and many towns and villages to explore it is clear why the Peak District National Park is the second most visited National Park in the world although surprisingly even in high season it is never over crowded.

All our cottages are pet friendly with the exception of Amberwood & Prospect Cottage. You are otherwise welcome to bring your well behaved dogs, cats and any other pets. A large parrot, has been our most exotic, to date. Babies are also welcome at all of the cottages, if well behaved.

We only take children at Amberwood, Conifer and Fountainwell Cottages. Only children over the age of 12 are accpeted at Prospect Cottage.

We ask that you kindly refrain from smoking inside all of the cottages.
